There are two kinds of games like 3D Tuning. The first kind lets you dress up a 3D model of a car that isn't yours, and there are dozens of them, some with far better graphics than the original. The second kind puts the wheels, the wrap or the body kit on the car that is actually sitting in your driveway. Most lists mix the two up. This one keeps them apart, so you can pick the right tool for what you're actually trying to do: play, or plan a build you're going to pay for.
Americans spent $52.65 billion on specialty automotive equipment in 2024, according to SEMA's 2025 market report, and SEMA's consumer research calls the internet "vitally important" for researching those purchases. A lot of that research starts in a customizer.
What 3D Tuning does, and where it stops
3D Tuning is a free browser and mobile configurator that lets you modify a stock 3D model of a car with parts, paint, wheels and suspension settings. The site lists more than 600 cars, with over 200 offering individual tuning options and the 100 most popular getting the newest features. It runs on the web, iOS and Android. If your goal is to see what a Supra looks like on deep-dish wheels with a widebody kit, it does that quickly and for free.
Where it stops is the word "model." The Civic in 3D Tuning is not your Civic. It doesn't have your paint, your fender gap, your dent, or the way light falls across your street at 6 pm. Wheel offset, the single most common thing people get wrong when buying wheels, is a slider on a mesh, not a measurement on your hubs. So the render looks great and answers nothing about how that wheel will sit on your car. Every game below shares that limit. The last section is about the apps that don't.
Games like 3D Tuning on PC and console
If you want the 3D Tuning loop with better graphics and a game around it, these nine deliver. They're ordered from the deepest visual customization to the most technical.
1. Forza Horizon 6
The closest thing to a mainstream 3D Tuning. Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, set in Japan, with a PlayStation 5 version confirmed for later in the year. The series' customization suite carries over: a full livery and vinyl editor, aftermarket wheels, body kits, adjustable ride height and camber, and engine and drivetrain swaps. Paid, and the most complete "make it look how I want" game on the list. Forza Horizon 5 remains a cheaper way into the same tools.
2. Need for Speed Unbound
EA advertises more than 10,000 customization options: body kits and individual panels, rims, real-world tire brands, tints, colored calipers, "Legendary Customs" kits that change the car's silhouette, and a wrap editor with hundreds of decals plus community sharing. PS5, Xbox Series and PC, paid. If liveries are your thing, this or Gran Turismo.
3. Gran Turismo 7
The most polished look on a console. GT7's livery editor sits under GT Auto, and most road cars have a wide body kit available through the same menu, with wheels purchased separately and repainted in the editor. Styles save the livery, wheels and aero together so you can share a complete build. PS4 and PS5, paid. Less street-mod variety than Forza, more realism.
4. CarX Street and CarX Drift Racing Online
Two games, one studio, both built around tuning culture. CarX Street started as a free mobile game and moved to Steam in August 2024 without microtransactions, then to Xbox and PS5 in mid-2025 at $29.99. Body kits, wheels, vinyls, and engine and suspension tuning. CarX Drift Racing Online adds 120-plus cars, body kits and a flexible livery system with mod.io user content, also $29.99 on consoles.
5. Torque Drift 2
The one with real brands. Torque Drift 2 has been in Steam Early Access since November 2024 and lists over 25 areas of the car to modify with more than 60 licensed brands, including GReddy, Liberty Walk and Top Secret, plus a paint shop with a full livery editor. Wheels, body kits, spoilers, roll cages, engine swaps. A free demo is on the Epic store. For a drift-build feel, it beats the bigger names.
6. BeamNG.drive
Not a customizer at all in the 3D Tuning sense, but the deepest mod platform on the list. BeamNG.drive is $24.99 on PC and has been in Early Access since 2015. Customization happens through part configurations, body kits, skins, engines and suspension, and a community mod repository with an in-game manager. Most cars are fictional; real-car body kits arrive via mods. If you care about how a car behaves after you change it, this is the sandbox.
7. Assetto Corsa EVO
A sim, not a dress-up game, but the modding side is opening up. Update 0.8 in July 2026 added external livery support and community cars in multiplayer, following the car-editor SDK in 0.7, and a free community livery toolkit exists. PC, paid, still in Early Access as of this writing. No wheel or body-kit configurator; you come here to drive, then paint.
8. Car Mechanic Simulator
The reverse of 3D Tuning: instead of choosing the part, you fit it. Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 is still sold with new DLC, and the sequel, Car Mechanic Simulator 2026, lists over 500 vehicle configurations and co-op, with a public demo released in March 2026. Repairs, engine rebuilds, paint, wheels, some body kits, on a mix of licensed and fictional cars. Windows, paid. Useful for understanding what a shop actually does when it quotes you.
9. Automation: The Car Company Tycoon Game
For people who'd rather design the car than modify one. Automation is $29.99 on Steam, in Early Access since 2015, and lets you build bodies, fixtures and engines from scratch, then export the result to BeamNG.drive to drive it. The developers say the designers become feature complete after the Supercharger update planned for 2026. The furthest from 3D Tuning in intent, the closest in spirit.

On a phone, three free games cover most of what 3D Tuning does, with multiplayer on top.
10. Car Parking Multiplayer
The biggest one. Free with in-app purchases on iOS and Android, with a vinyl editor, body kits, wheels and tire width, suspension adjustment and engine swaps, and a sequel built on a newer engine with a larger vehicle list. Most of the "car customization" videos you see on TikTok that aren't Forza are this.
11. FR Legends
A stylized drift game with surprisingly deep mods: engine swaps, wide-body kits, bumpers, spoilers and suspension, with liveries shared as codes between players. Free with in-app purchases, iOS and Android. Cartoon proportions, real drift feel.
12. Tuning Club Online
Free on iOS and Android: body kits, hoods, spoilers, vinyls, wheels and tires, engines built from parts, camber and offset sliders, plus race and drift modes online. The cars are fictional lookalikes, which is why the customization can go as far as it does.
AI car modification apps that use your own photo
This is the category 3D Tuning can't compete in: upload a photo of your car, describe or pick the change, get a photoreal render of that car. Three tools worth knowing, with different trade-offs.
13. Car-editor.com
The broadest menu. Web, iOS and Android; upload a photo and the AI renders paint, rims, body kits, wraps, tint, spoilers, headlights and underglow, with 119 preset mods listed. Pricing is per render or subscription: $2.99 for a single image, $11.99 a week, $25.99 a month with commercial rights, or $79.99 a year. Good for a one-off "what would it look like" picture. Less good if you want to compare five wheel designs on the same shot, because each one is a paid render.
14. WheelBlend and TheWheelVisualizer
Two wheel-specific photo tools. WheelBlend swaps wheels onto a real photo and adds ride height and caliper color changes. TheWheelVisualizer lets you upload a photo, pick from a free wheel catalog, and pay to unlock your own wheel images. Both are narrower than Car-editor.com and better at the one thing they do. Neither is built for a shop to use with its customers.
15. VizTunr
Our own tool, so judge the claims on the free demo rather than on this paragraph. VizTunr's demo takes a photo of your car and renders wheels, wraps, colors or ride height onto it in about a minute, with no account. The Personal Studio adds a private garage of your cars and a library of wheels, wraps and colors at $0.75 per render, pay as you go, no subscription. And the part none of the apps above do: a shop can put the same try-on on its own website, so customers preview the shop's wheels on their car before they call. That's the virtual try-on angle the whole product is built around.
Here's what "your own photo" means in practice. The first image is an ordinary parking-lot photo of a stock Civic. The second is the same photo, rendered with bronze wheels and a drop.
Same car, same puddle-gray sky, same parking space. That's the difference between a customizer and a preview: you're not judging a wheel design in a neon showroom, you're judging it against your paint and your fender gap.

A quick word on retailer visualizers, since they come up in the same search. Discount Tire, Vossen and most wheel brands offer a "see it on your car" tool that shows a stock illustration matched to your year, make, model and color. That's a catalog picture, not your car. Useful for narrowing a wheel style, useless for judging offset, ride height or how bronze reads against your specific paint.
If you run a shop: customers arrive with screenshots
The 3D Tuning generation walks into wheel and tuning shops holding a phone. The screenshot shows a wheel they like on a car that isn't theirs, in lighting that doesn't exist, at an offset nobody measured. The shop's job becomes translating a game render into a real quote, and the back-and-forth ("can I see it first?") is where deals stall.
The fix is to meet the customer where they already are. A try-on on your own site, rendering your inventory on their photo, turns the screenshot into a lead with a car attached.
